Diary: Trends for 2017

Diary: Trends for 2017

I love checking out the latest trends in decorating! It's fun to see who thinks what's going to be popular in decor. Then I decide what trends work and don't work for me and my style. After reading through all my Google research I've come up with some ideas on these trends.

First here are the color trends for this winter/spring 2017. All these colors are gorgeous!

I am always able to find the latest home decor trends at HomeGoods! I feel I can indulge my quick fix for trendy home decor there. The price is right too!

I do love to use both pink colors in decorating. I understand the trend setters are saying this color will have a short life and is already on its way out, but I've always used pink in my decorating and will continue to do so. I'm going against the trend setters here and guessing that pink will be with us longer than they think. Jewel tone colors are said to be the newest trend coming our way.

Evergreen or dark shades of green will be trending this year. They are already extremely popular in Europe. Using this color in decor will certainly add depth of color to your design while also giving it a natural outdoorsy feel. I may experiment with this color trend with throw pillows. I do like the drama of the dark sofa against the white wall.

Cork is back. Think of a cork wall in your home office. Cork will definitely add warmth and texture to any space! Does this mean framed blackboards are on there way out?

Terracotta tiles with a matte finish will replace the current cooler white tones used now. They will be used as feature walls, flooring, or on fireplace surrounds. This trend will certainly add a lot of dimension and warmth to our interior designs.

For the bedroom, plush upholstered head boards will be number one. The 'bedhead' adds instant glamour, texture, and style to the bedroom. I currently don't have one but have been wanting this look for a long time! I love this trend!

Shapes in decor will be changing too.  Instead of a boxy modern sofa (that I have) think of a modern rounded sofa, probably tufted. Rounded ottomans in faux fur or velvet. Think a rounded coffee table....sharp edges are out. I love the square sides and boxy comfort of my sofas so this trend won't be in my home soon. Not to mention it's a big ticket item to replace! However I have been looking for a new coffee table, and I love the velvet tufted ottomans! This may be the way I explore this new trend in shapes. (Overstocked.com :ottoman photo)

Escapism. I love this trend in decorating. People now want a quiet refuge away from technological distractions. So think of creating a nook somewhere in your home where you can escape to for peace and tranquility. Then furnish this space with everything cozy: slipcovered chair or sofa, a day bed, chunky knits, faux fur, floor cushions, endless possibilities! I'm thinking of creating my nook in the backyard this spring. (You'll be the first to see it!)

Shades of grey are popular this winter as the new neutral! I've seen grey used in flooring, wood color for furniture, and paint. Trims and moldings are being painted in beautiful winter morning grey tones. I love this trend.

Picture galleries are back. The new modern trend is to have a grid of frames instead of a random gallery. I've tried this over my bar cart. My bar cart tends to be filled chaotically, so this brings a sense of order and simplicity to this vignette. I like this.

Some of my favorites are still trending: Butterflies, faux fur, chunky knits, and gold!

Here is a quick list of what's out:

1. Copper

2. Marble in homeware

3. Quote artwork

4. Fiddle leaf figs

5. Subway tile

So here were just a few of the trends that will be shaping our decorating choices in the years to come. The most important thing to remember when decorating your home is to make it a place you love, feel comfortable, and reflects your own personality. A place you want to come home to!

Thanks for stopping by! Happy decorating!

I was thinking maybe a grey weathered wood round coffee table? Hmmm....

I have received products in exchange for this post. All expressed opinions are 100% mine.
